Alexandra Finemore: President of Bottled Snail receives Law Institute of Victoria Highest Accolade

It was with great pleasure that the team of Counsel Family Lawyers attended the Annual Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) Awards evening on Friday 19 May 2017 to see our very own Associate – Alex Finemore receive the highest award from the LIV on behalf of the not for profit organisation of which she is the President: Bottled Snail.

Counsel Family Lawyers is a sponsor of Bottled Snail and was thrilled to learn that LIV President Belinda Wilson decided to bestow the prestigious President’s Award on this remarkable group of lawyers.  It was the only the third time in the history of the LIV that a President has awarded this to a group of lawyers rather than to an individual (Caroline Counsel of this firm being the first President to do so in 2011).

Bottled Snail provides a unique opportunity for lawyers and those associated with the legal profession to express themselves through the arts – music, theatre, choral works, painting, photography and cabaret (to name but some of the media Bottled Snail offers).  In doing so, Bottled Snail also seeks to address mental health issues in the profession by providing creative outlets which promote wellness.  We know that lawyers rate as the most depressed profession and this has not only poor outcomes for those who suffer from mental ill health, but also their clients and the community.

Bottled Snail saw a void in this space and decided to fill it.  They have been responsible for running many offerings during Law Week and their next major production for 2017 is “The Conversation” a play by David Williamson which will be held at the Meat Market in June 2017.  See link below for tickets to an event not to be missed.
