When a child’s parents separate, the child’s relationship with their grandparents can be disrupted. Sometimes, a parent will withdraw access to grandchildren. In other cases, the parents are not capable of looking after the children, due to substance abuse or other issues, and the grandparents need to step in to protect the children. What rights do grandparents have when the parents separate or ‘consciously uncouple’?
